Was ist ein Phablet?
Phablets, mobile Geräte mit großen Bildschirmen, sind sehr beliebt. Phablets haben eine Bildschirmgröße von 5 bis 7 Zoll in der Breite. Obwohl sie technisch gesehen eine Mischform zwischen einem Smartphone und einem Tablet sind, werden sie in der Regel als solche eingestuft.
Diese Geräte sind keine kleinen Tablets, da sie zusätzlich zu den Funktionen eines Tablets auch alle üblichen Telefonfunktionen bieten.
Es gibt einige Phablets, auf denen speziell für ihre Größe entwickelte Apps laufen und auf anderen wiederum laufen grafisch hoch-skalierte Versionen von Apps, die eigentlich für herkömmliche Smartphones konzipiert wurden. Selten kommt es vor, dass sich auf einem Phablet herunterskalierte Tablet-Apps befinden.
Einige Phablets bieten zusätzlich die Möglichkeit sie in Verbindung mit einem Eingabestift zu verwenden. Das Besondere: die Software im Phablet erkennt den handschriftlichen Eintrag und kann den Text so digitalisieren. Das ist vor allem für jene praktisch, die viel lieber per Hand schreiben, als zu tippen.

Seit wann gibt es Phablets?
Der Begriff Phablet entstand Ende 2009 und er wurde hin und wieder für besonders große Smartphones verwendet. Aber es sollte bis 2011 dauern, bis Samsung mit dem Galaxy Note das erste weltweit bekannte Phablet auf den Markt brachte.
Es gab damals viele Kritiker, die dem Gerät keine rosige Zukunft voraussagten, weil so ein großes Gerät doch recht sperrig beim Telefonieren ist und auch nicht unbedingt in jede Hosentasche passt. Aber das konnte nicht verhindern, dass das Galaxy Note zum Verkaufsschlager wurde. Und das gilt nicht nur für die erste Version des Notes, sondern auch für viele folgende Versionen.
